Bereit.

Privacy policy

Bereit grades the German you write and speak, so your answers have to leave your iPhone. This page explains what is sent where, how long it is kept, and how to remove it.

Last updated

The short version

  • You sign in with Apple or Google. Your account holds your answers and results.
  • To grade your Schreiben and Sprechen, your answers are sent to AI services that read handwriting, transcribe speech and assess your German.
  • Photos of handwritten pages and recordings of your voice are deleted after 24 hours.
  • You can delete your account and everything in it from the app at any time.
  • No ads, no tracking, no analytics tools, and nothing is sold.

Who is responsible

Bereit is made by Joel Mwaka, Stuttgart, Germany. For anything about your data, email joel.mwaka@outlook.com. The full contact details are in the Impressum.

Your account

When you sign in with Apple or Google, Bereit receives your name and email address from them (with Apple, you can choose to hide your email). Your account also stores your exam date, the app language you chose and whether you have finished the first setup questions. If you choose to enter your official exam result, it is stored too.

Your practice

For each task you do, your account keeps:

  • your written answers and the transcripts of what you said;
  • your Lesen and Hören answers and their marks;
  • the grading: estimated points, the feedback, and the language mistakes found, so the app can show your recurring mistakes and your progress;
  • your mock exam attempts and their results.

This is kept until you delete your account, so your history and progress stay with you on any device you sign in on.

Feedback you send

If you rate a grading (“Was this feedback helpful?”) or write to me from Profile → Send feedback, your rating or message is stored with your account, together with the app version and app language. I use it only to improve the grading and the app. It is deleted with your account.

Photos and recordings

If you write on paper, the photos of your pages are uploaded so your handwriting can be read. In Sprechen, your recorded turns are uploaded so they can be transcribed. Both are deleted automatically 24 hours after upload. What remains is the text: the transcript you confirmed and the grading.

Who processes your answers

Bereit uses these services to provide its features:

  • Supabasestores your account and practice data and runs the app's server functions, in Frankfurt, Germany. Supabase privacy policy.
  • Anthropic(Claude API) reads the photos of your handwritten pages, grades your Schreiben and Sprechen against the B2 criteria and writes the exam partner's replies in Sprechen. It receives the task, your answer or transcript and, for feedback, your app language. It processes this under its commercial terms, which do not allow it to train its models on your data; see Anthropic's privacy policy for how long it may keep inputs for safety purposes.
  • ElevenLabs transcribes your recorded speech into text and creates the voice of your exam partner from its replies. ElevenLabs privacy policy.
  • Apple handles payment for the exam pass. I never see your card details.
  • RevenueCatchecks your pass purchases with Apple and keeps a record of them under your account ID, so a pass can be restored on any device. It receives the App Store's record of each purchase and basic device information, but not your name or email. RevenueCat privacy policy.
  • Google, only if you sign in with Google, under Google's privacy policy.

Before you sign in

The introduction and the listening sample work without an account. To see which steps of the introduction people reach, the app creates a random ID on your iPhone and records the steps you take with it, such as “sample marked”. Once you sign in, these records are linked to your account. They contain no answers and are used only to improve the app.

On your iPhone

Exam reminders are local notifications scheduled by the app on your phone. Your app language, Punkt's colour and similar settings are stored on the device.

This website

getbereit.de is hosted by Cloudflare. To deliver the pages, Cloudflare processes your IP address and basic request details, and may keep them briefly in its logs for security. Cloudflare privacy policy. The website sets no cookies and uses no analytics or tracking.

Legal basis

Storing your account and practice data, grading your answers and checking your pass are needed to provide the service you asked for (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). The introduction records and the cost and usage records that keep grading within daily limits, the feedback you choose to send, and delivering this website, are based on a legitimate interest in improving the app, preventing abuse, controlling costs and keeping the website secure (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Where data goes

Your data is stored in the EU. Anthropic, ElevenLabs and RevenueCat are based in the United States; the transfers rely on the safeguards those providers offer under EU data protection law, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

Your rights

You can ask for access to, a copy of, correction of, or deletion of your personal data, and object to or restrict its use. To delete everything yourself, use Profile → Delete account in the app: your account, answers, results, mistakes and pass are removed for good. You can also complain to a data protection authority; mine is the Landesbeauftragte für den Datenschutz und die Informationsfreiheit Baden-Württemberg.

Children

Bereit is made for anyone preparing for the German B2 exam and has no content unsuitable for children. If you are under 16, ask a parent or guardian before you create an account or buy an exam pass. A parent or guardian can email me at any time to have a child's account and everything in it deleted.

Changes

If what the app does with data changes, this page will change first, with a new date at the top.
