Goethe-Zertifikat B2

Goethe B2 scoring: points, grades and the A to E criteria

Every module has 100 points and you need 60 of them. Behind that, Lesen and Hören are simple arithmetic, and Schreiben and Sprechen use a scale from A to E.

Points per module

Schreiben and Sprechen
Criteria, levels A to E

The grades

The grade is per module. There is no overall grade across the four, and one module cannot rescue another.

  • 90 to 100 points: sehr gut (very good)
  • 80 to 89 points: gut (good)
  • 70 to 79 points: befriedigend (satisfactory)
  • 60 to 69 points: ausreichend (sufficient)
  • Below 60 points: nicht bestanden (not passed)

Lesen and Hören: counting

30 questions each, one point per correct answer, no penalty for wrong ones. The result is converted to 100: 30 correct is 100 points, 18 correct is 60. So you need at least 18 correct answers in each of the two modules.

Schreiben: four criteria

Two examiners rate each text on task fulfilment, coherence, vocabulary and structures, each with a level from A (best) to E. Each level stands for fixed points. In Teil 1 (60 points), an A in task fulfilment and coherence is worth 14 points each, in vocabulary and structures 16 each; B is three quarters of that, C half, D a quarter, E zero. In Teil 2 (40 points), an A in each criterion is worth 10.

The most important rule: if task fulfilment is E, the whole part scores 0. A text that misses the topic or has fewer than half the required words is not graded for language at all.

Sprechen: the same scale, more criteria

Speaking uses A to E too. Graded are task fulfilment, coherence and fluency, the question and answer in Teil 1, interaction and register in Teil 2, plus vocabulary, structures and, across the whole exam, pronunciation. Teil 1 is worth about 44 points, Teil 2 about 56.

How Bereit grades

Punkt grades your texts and conversations on exactly these criteria and levels and works out the points the same way. Because no examiner is in the room, Bereit always shows you a range, say 52 to 64, and tells you honestly whether you're above the line. The points are an estimate for your preparation, not an official result.

Questions

  • No. Each module is scored and passed on its own. You get four results, not one total.

  • You retake only that module. The ones you passed stay passed.

  • Two trained examiners, independently. For speaking both are in the room; for writing they rate the text separately.

  • It follows the same criteria, but no automatic system replaces two examiners. That's why Bereit shows a range. Use it to see which criterion costs you most, not as a guarantee.
