The four parts
- Teil 1: five short recordings, such as an announcement, a voicemail, a short conversation. Each plays once, with two questions each: one true/false and one multiple choice. 10 questions.
- Teil 2: an interview, for example on the radio. It plays twice, with six multiple-choice questions.
- Teil 3: a conversation between three people, such as a discussion on a radio show. It plays once, and you match six statements to the person who says them.
- Teil 4: a lecture. It plays twice, with eight multiple-choice questions.
Before each recording: read the questions
Before each part you get time to read the questions. Use all of it. Underline the key words in each question: who? when? why? Then you know what you're waiting for, and you don't start listening at the second sentence of the answer.
In Teil 1 and 3 there is no second time. If you miss a question, let it go and focus on the next one. There is no rewinding, and if you get stuck you miss the following one too.
What the speakers do to you
- They often say the answer differently from the question: „Das wäre mir zu teuer“ instead of „zu hohe Kosten“.
- They correct themselves: „am Montag, nein, am Dienstag“. The correction always counts.
- They mention several options and reject most. The question asks about the one that's left.
- In Teil 3 the three people hold different views. Note who stands for what before it starts.
Practising like the exam
When practising in Bereit you can pause, rewind and replay as often as you like, with the explanation for every answer and the transcript to read. In the mock exam the recordings then run as in the exam: once or twice, without pausing, with the reading time before each. Hören is completely free in Bereit.
